My client who was due 12/18 had her baby in the early hours of December 23rd and it was a wonderful birth! After her middle of the night call, I prayed the whole way there for a great birth experience for her, a short birth ( for her and me!) and for Austin to do well. I specifically prayed for a 6 hour birth---yes that can be considered short, but I felt this was the amount of time that Austin could handle and that would help this client feel elated after her last birth which was over 38 hours long!
So she called me around 1 a.m to come to her and I left her house to return home at 7a.m.--6 hours! Baby Girl was born at 4:36 a.m. and this family was elated with their birth experience!
And I felt my doula passion rise up again and make me so pleased and honored to do this job! I had wondered how it would be doing a birth after my own experience and after being away for awhile--well I felt like I just slid right back into it so seamlessly and I felt this high doing it again! It really is an incredible calling and such a privilege to help families welcome their newborn babies.
Austin did wonderful! Shea said he he woke about once and really fussed but then went back to sleep and did not wake again until about 7:30a.m--when he woke up happy and ready to play! I am so thrilled this all went so well after all my fretting--God is so faithful!
